Meet Laura

Laura Karp is the founder of Be More Occupational Therapy. She is a passionate, energetic OT dedicated to helping young adults achieve independence. Laura specializes in supporting adolescents and young adults with a wide range of developmental, neurological, and emotional needs, including: intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), Down syndrome, autism, ADHD, and anxiety. She is especially interested in building self-regulation and executive functioning—key foundations for academic success, employment, and daily living skills.

Laura earned her master’s degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University and her master’s degree in Occupational Science from Towson University. She earned her post-professional clinical doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Temple University, where she studied the transition into adulthood for people with disabilities. Laura was recently interviewed on The Post-Secondary Transition Podcast and founded a nonprofit 501(c)(3), Down Right Perfect. She is passionate about making the world a better, more inclusive place for people of all abilities.

Laura is an expert in special education and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). As an independent Master IEP Coach, she has worked with schools and families to develop client-centered IEPs with meaningful and functional goals.

She taught high school in Baltimore City and has worked with students in K-21 comprehensive and self-contained programs across the state of Maryland as a pediatric occupational therapist. Laura’s favorite activities include running, reading, volunteering, and spending time with family.
